The Goods Shed
Farmers Market, Food Hall & RestaurantWhere do you buy products for your favourite meal? My students and I decided to go to a daily farmers’ market on-line.The Goods Shed opened in 2002 as a daily farmers market with onsite restaurant using the local market produce. Fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, cheeses, honey, herbs, wine, cider, cut flowers and garden plants, breads, cakes and pies are sold on large wooden stalls. In fact their products won’t be much cheaper than those in the supermarket.
So where to go and what to buy?
Here you can see the results of our trip.

I decided to make stewed chicken breast with mushrooms and vegetables. For this dish I need buy: chicken breast, mushrooms, carrot, purple sprouting broccoli and salad. In the market "Goods shed" my amount constituted 50 pounds. If to transfer this amount for the Russian rubles, then 3537 rubles it turns out. It is very expensive for me. For this money I can go to shop and buy food for 2 weeks. Therefore, I have decided that it is better to to stock up at the supermarket, which is located across the street.

Tonight I'm going to cook a chicken with vegetables. So I need: a chicken, potatoes, carrots and eggplant. I'm looking for ingredients in the market "Coods Shed". The ingredients cost about 1500 rubles. It's very expensive for me and I'm buying everything at the local supermarket with cheap prices. I think that " Goods Shed" is a fresh products, honest sellers and confidence in buying. But I prefer to buy everything at the supermarket, which offer an available prices.

To prepare the meat in sweet and sour sauce, it took me one carrot, one onion, pork, bit of sugar, vinegar. At the market, I was able to buy only vegetables and meat. Moreover, it cost me 1,400 rubles. I think that it is expensive. Of course, the market has many pluses. For example, the products come to us directly from the garden; everything is fresh and very useful. However, the cost is very high. We can buy products not worse than the market in supermarket. All it cost 600 rubles at the supermarket. In addition, visit the supermarket is much easier, because it is close to home, and to the market I have to go by car.

I have decided to make pizza. For this purpose it is required to me: chicken, tomatoes, tomato paste, cheese, mushrooms, paprika, arugula.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a half of products of my list in the "Goods shed" market. Other products have cost me 2000 rubles. It too expensive for me. In a supermarket which is near my house these products it is possible to buy much cheaper, there is always a lot of choice, fruit and vegetables always fresh therefore I will prefer to buy ingredients for pizza in this supermarket.

If to transfer this amount for the Russian rubles, then 3583 rubles it turns out. It is too expensive thats why i decided to buy everything at the local supermarket. There it cost 1295 rubles and it is suitable for me. More over i can't find all product which i need. But there is adventage аll products are always fresh. Maybe if i lived in the UK i would decide the Goods Shed.

Tonight I wanted to cook vegetable stew. I compared prices in the goods shed and a supermarket. for my meals I need to buy brussels sprouts, cauliflower, сharlotte рotatoes, garlic, purple sprouting broccoli , rainbow carrots and salad. The market is worth 890 rubles, in the supermarket, I bought these products for 500 rubles. Supermarket has several advantages. Firstly, the products here cheaper and more choices. on the market, I did not find most vegetables, fruits, and drinks like tea and juice. So, I think it's better to buy food in a supermarket.

For example, I'm going to cook roast beef. To do this I need to beef, a couple of onions, a little carrots, celery, garlic, and spices such as thyme, rosemary, sage and bay leaf. All this in a shop The Goods Shed cost me 20 pounds, which at the moment is about 1415 rubles. In the Russian stores, on average, the price of all these products will be about 800 rubles, of which 90% of this value is only one beef.
Which of this we can conclude: certainly benefit The Goods Shed that they have fresh produce grown by farmers on their farms in person, and they claim that their products are environmentally friendly. And as if all is well, if not a huge gap in the cost of the same products. Still, I would not have to keep buying the products currently in The Goods Shed, because it will be very expensive, compared to domestic shops.

I would like to cook apple crisp. For this recipe i need: 3 apples, butter, sugar and flour. 3 apples in the Goods shed will cost 10 pounds or about 700 rubles. It is very much even for the most delicious crisp. I do not want to spend the money on 3apples, i think it would be better to buy apples in the local market or in the supermarket. Althought, i would like to go to the Goods shed, or even buy there something extraordinary :)

I decided to cook one of my favourite dishes - soy-sause&honey chiken wings. It requires a minimum of ingredients, and I've already mentioned all of them at the recip name.
To my mind, it is absolutely useless even try to compare prises in a local russian supermarket and in the farmer's market in Canterbury. So, I found a website of "Ocado" supermarket in London and checked out the cost of required products there. £10.98 that was the final price. It is also worse noting that all the products which I ordered in "Ocado" were organic.
Then I went to the site of The Goods Shed and found out that orders in their online shop can't be done in familiar way. It's necessary to order a box of products on a minimal budget of £10. So, I need to visit the market to know the individual price of each product, what I definitely can't do. So, I decided to stop my research at this point.
All in all, organic products are easy to find both in farmer's markets and supermarkets today, but nothing will replace market's special atmosphere. That's why I'd prefer buying some ingredients there. But it's impossible to live without supermarkets today, as markets can provide people ONLY with small range of products, especially agricultural.

Today I decided to cook the Caesar Salad. To do this, I need to buy chicken breasts, eggs, biscuits, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce. If you buy in "The Goods Shed", the sum of the order reaches £ 20, which is about 1432 rubles, which is very expensive. On my order only chicken breast and salad are included. I could not find the other products in "The Goods Shed", that it is very bad. Shopping is also calculated in pounds, which for me is very inconvenient and budget starts with a minimum of 10 pounds. However, products in this market will be fresh and will delivered to home. But the supermarket is across the road and it is available for all products, "Caesar", and yet you don't spend much money, as in "The Goods Shed". But there are also disadvantages of the supermarket. Products in large stores don't have time to check, and you can buy already missing product. In addition, the supermarkets have no delivery function. You have to buy all the products by yourself. But all the same products for "Caesar" salad I will buy in the supermarket, because it is more profitable and closer.

I would like to cook a traditional Japanese ramen. The meal of five portions: 1 kilo of pork, 700 grams of ramen noodles, 20 grams of salt and sugar, 200 grams soy sauce, 30 grams of melted pork fat, 30 grams ginger, 1 gram of cinnamon, 10 grams of onion and 2 liters of water. Unfortunately, I haven't found the products that I need for the soup, so I will buy all ingredients at the supermarket. The products are cheaper in the supermarket than Farmers Market, Food Hall & Restaurant. The Goods Shed has its advantages: the quality of vegetables, fresh meat and seafood, but there is also disadvantage: you will not be able to buy spices. The supermarket also has its advantages: all products are packed, there are shopping carts, but the products aren’t all high quality. You should carefully choose the products in the supermarket.

This shop has a few pros and cons. For example delivery of products will be long if you live far away. Products have time to deteriorate. Since each product can be purchased in unlimited quantities for 10 GBP, it can sometimes be profitably .When buying food for two people, to prepare for a normal dinner(a kilogram of potatoes, salt, butter, dill, pork bread.) I would choose a shop in my home because it is cheaper and faster.

Today I decided to cook fruit salad. I need only fresh ingredients for this salad. I decided to order some food from the The Goods Shed market. I ordered a large number of fruits. You ask me : why I did not buy food in an ordinary supermarket? everything is very simple. The advantage of the usual supermarket is that it is cheaper and it is near but the food quality is very bad, a lot of fruit have been on the stall for more than a month. The Goods Shed market is very expensive but the quality of food is more important for me. I take care of my health. Another reason I chose this market is that I love the market atmosphere. I enjoy the smell of freshly baked bread, fresh meat and stinking fish. I love watching how people choose food
for themselves. There are very good sellers, they are always polite and can help with the choice. One day I did not know what to cook for dinner, meat salesman advised me to make ratatouille. I was impressed that a stranger pleased my interests. There is nothing to complain about! Products are always fresh and of the highest quality. I am very pleased. Now go to the market is a fairy tale for me. I advise all my friends to go here. having been here you'll be sure to return again and again

Deciding to cook, chicken soup" I needed:condiments(some),potatoes, carrots, onions, chicken, pasta.I went to the Goods Shed,as there is always only fresh food.To my surprise, the price of all purchases was 9 lbc(647 rubles). To be honest I thought the price will be lower.Next time I decided to buy groceries at the supermarket. How do you think what was the price...7.9 lbs(568 rubles)! After that I decided to buy only products in the supermarket,as I think that the supermarket will not risk their reputation by selling expired products and because of that supermarket closest to my house.

I was curious about if shopping in The Goods Shed is better than shopping in our local supermarket. For my so called “research” I chose diced baked potatoes with diced pork in oven as an example. To cook up this dish I need diced pork, potatoes, carrots, onions and sunflower oil. We have our own garden, so we don’t need to worry about potatoes and carrots. Thus, we have to buy meat, sunflower oil and onions. We will pay about 400 rubles in the supermarket. I couldn’t find sunflower oil in The Goods Shed. Moreover, it’s necessary to pay at least 10£ to buy something from one list. For example, I need diced pork from “Meat” list and onions from “Veg” list, so I must pay 20£. It is about 1430 rubles, and it is way too expensive. Of course, The Goods Shed has its pros. At this market packaging is kept to a minimum, so the food hasn’t travelled thousands of miles to get to the stall. It means that the food is fresh and full of vitamins. You can be sure it doesn’t contain any food additives. But in the supermarket you can find fresh and healthy food too, you just need to look carefully. To sum it up, The Goods Shed has organic food, but it’s too pricey. In our local supermarket it is harder to find fresh products, but prices are lower. I think I’d choose supermarket, because I’m not so rich to pay this much.
In conclusion I would like to say that the products I buy at the local supermarket because at the Goods Shed too high prices.
